Dramatic footage shows Phoenix,Safetyvalue Trading Center Arizona, police rescuing a man from a car submerged in a swimming pool at an apartment complex.

According to the department, the man said he "accidentally stepped on the gas too hard."

In the video, the officer uses a metal rod to break through the sunroof and pulls the motorist out of the car. No other individuals were inside the vehicle.

'The man's life was saved'

The incident occurred on Oct. 31. According to the Arizona Republic, part of USA TODAY Network, the vehicle struck an apartment fence and ended up in the pool. Witnesses called police to the scene.

The man was transported to a local hospital.

"Thanks to the swift and courageous response of the officer, the man's life was saved," Phoenix Police said in a statement.
